HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A powerful production. Sharply directed… played to perfection.
— Alan Bresloff, aroundthetownchicago
White’s staging also let moments of joy linger—which makes the fate of Anne, her family, and the other people in the annex even more sobering.
— Kerry Reid, Chicago Reader
Fishbein is a delightful Anne, a lively, curious and sometimes noisy 13-year-old, in a performance that will appeal to the young audience.
— Nancy S. Bishop, Third Coast Review
Kesselman’s stirring adaptation...boasts both excellent direction, a talented cast and superb supporting artistry by a top-notch technical team.
— Colin Douglas, Chicago Theatre Review

FEB 16 - MARCH 24

The Chicago Premiere of a Vital New
One-Act Adaptation

written by FRANCES GOODRICH & ALBERT HACKETT
newly adapted by WENDY KESSELMAN
based on The Diary of Anne Frank

directed by RANDY WHITE
assistant directed by SAM SHANKMAN
stage managed by PAYTON SHEARN

Anne’s Diary

A teenage girl’s first-hand account of Jewish families hiding in an attic above an office/factory in wartime Amsterdam, Anne Frank’s vivid, insightful, and impassioned diary has personalized the Holocaust for generations, making plain its terrible cost.

A New Adaptation

Wendy Kesselman’s one-act adaptation draws on previously unpublished diary entries to create a more complex, authentic, and compelling realization of the Anne Frank story. Critically, she also centered the Jewishness of those in hiding.

This sensitive and stirring version is not only more approachable and relevant for older children, but proves richer and more resonant for adult audiences as well.
